Animals have always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. If I wasn’t catching tadpoles in the creek, I was tending to the many pets that I was very fortunate that my parents allowed me to have. Birds, guinea pigs, a tortoise, mice ducks and my first dog, a Beagle cross named Chopper. My parents gave into my pestering and a horse was added to the menagerie.
When you have lots of animals there was obviously lots of trips to the vet. I was hooked and I knew early on that I wanted to be a veterinarian. While I didn’t get into vet school straight away from school, I completed a Bachelor of Science degree, allowing me to be accepted into Veterinary Science, graduating from the University of Queensland in 1998.
After working in a mixed practice in Morayfield, I moved to Toowoomba, working in various small animal practices. It was while working in general practice that the concept of starting a house call practice was conceived.
In 2011 I started Creature Comforts Mobile Vet with the aim of providing personal and compassionate veterinary care in the comfort of your home. I find both clients and their pets are less stressed in their familiar surroundings. Over the past 10 years I have been very fortunate to be invited into your homes and had the pleasure of tailoring the healthcare needs of the most beautiful pets with the support of their wonderful caretakers.
When I’m not visiting my clients, you might find me visiting the national parks hiking trails, enjoying precious family time and usually taking way too many photos along the way. I love the excitement of travelling and experiencing different cultures, maybe that’s why I’m a mobile vet, and I love a good yarn! My partner and kids Pascal and Louis share our home with Claude the Bichoodle, Leo the Kelpie, Sooty the cheeky Pony, Berger Fergus and Rosie the sheep, Kevin and Zoe the peacocks, Nessie and Dianna the guinea pigs, Angel and Nemo the Budgies and Barry White and Deborah Harry the ducks, and of course I can’t forget Her Majesty Hannah Mae the Exotic Short Hair Persian, or The Boss.
I started my journey in the veterinary industry back in 1996 and have worked in several small animal and mixed practices since then. I ran puppy preschool classes for many years and enjoyed getting to know the puppies and their families and helping them navigate through those tricky growing stages! We have recently had a gorgeous border collie puppy join our family so I am putting everything I know into practice!
I have been working with Jules since January 2015 as the surgery nurseand I love it! Veterinary nursery is challenging and very rewarding.
I live with with my husband and two teenagers on a little farm at Murphys Creek with our menagerie of 4 dogs, 2 cats, 3 horses, 5 cows, 2 donkeys, 2 fish and 15 hens. Life is good!
I enjoy spending time with my family, fured, feathered and featherless, camping bush walking (not as much as Jules!), riding horses and reading.
HannahMae joined the Creatures team in 2017. She had become too boisterous for one of my clients elderly cats, so she came to stay with me while we looked for a home for her. She hid for the first 3 days and then decided that this place looked like it needed a new Boss! So, she stayed.
She likes to keep warm on the computer keyboard while she pens her memoirs that goes something like this; lihdswqelz1x3487ttnHW3KN7B42352Jx[. I’m sure it translates to my favourite things are creamies, why is my creamies bowl empty, you didn’t give me enough creamies or biscuits while you’re at it…no not those ones…. swipe. Resting evil cat face. Repeat!
